Alex - Assistant Operation Manager Heimathafen® Hotels
With Heimathafen® Hotels since 2013
I am Alex and Assistant Director Heimathafen® Hotels.
From 2001 to 2010, I lived on the North Sea, in St. Peter-Ording to be precise. I originally come from the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt. I started my training as a hotel manageress in SPO at the age of 16, stayed with my training company for two and a half years and later became deputy reception manager after working as a receptionist.
In 2007, I opened a second hotel together with Jens (Managing Director and founder of Heimathafen® Hotels) and his brother as Rooms Division & Revenue Manager (everything to do with rooms, room rates and reservations).
I stayed there for another three years until I fulfilled my childhood dream and travelled to Costa Rica for two years from 2010 to 2012. My plan was to get to know my family and experience the country and its people. Possible jobs in the hotel industry should not be an issue, after all tourism is also a big topic abroad. I first worked at reception, learnt Spanish and worked as a reception & reservations manager in a 5-star boutique hotel. In mid-November 2012, I travelled back to the North Sea (with my husband) to take over as hotel manager of the Beach Motel St. Peter-Ording during the pre-opening phase in December. It opened on time in March 2013.
Two years later, I took a year's parental leave because my son was born. Then I met Marco again after a long time (we did our training together & met Jens) & he became the new director of the Beach Motel SPO. In 2016, I started with the pre-opening of the Beach Motel Heiligenhafen. With a family, a move to the Baltic Sea & a much larger hotel complex, it was a whole new challenge. We opened in December 2016 & to this day, no two days are the same.
Especially because my position within Heimathafen® Hotels has changed a bit in the meantime and I'm no longer just responsible for one hotel but keep an eye on the big picture as Assistant Operation Managerat Heimathafen® Hotels.
This has made my work even more varied and never boring. Working with and in hotels is simply incredibly varied, full of new acquaintances and tasks that allow everyone to grow on a daily basis. Our new addition to the family, Blue, has recently started coming to work with me every day. A privilege that I would find difficult to fulfil in any other job.
